The pandemic has put paid to this year’s Miners Gala going ahead on the streets of Durham.

Instead, the 2020 event will be a celebration of the Big Meeting and it’s history and here’s an idea of what is planned.

But if you are missing the Gala and it’s wonderful atmosphere, here’s a reminder.

Every one of these photos is from the Hartlepool Mail archives and they all show collieries from the East Durham area enjoying their day out.
