Budding photographers win award for capturing beauty of Hartlepool
During the summer break five secondary schools teamed up with Hartlepool Borough Council to launch a postcard competition.
Pupils in Years 7 and Year 8 were asked to capture an image that represented pride in their town and submit it to be judged Frank Reid, chief photographer at Northeast Press and councillor Alan Clark.

Hide AdAround 1,000 pupils from Manor College of Technology, English Martyrs Catholic Primary School, St Hild’s Church of England School, High Tunstall College of Science, and Dyke House Sports and Technology College were asked to take part.
Lesley Welsh, vice principal at Manor Community Academy, said: “The winners are Rachel Mayes of St Hild’s Church of England School; Katie Pattison of High Tunstall College of Science; Anne-Marie Price of The English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College and Ellie Gale of Manor Community Academy.”
The winners will now take part in a photography workshop with Frank to take photos which will go on display at Hartlepool’s civic buildings.
Frank said: “Rachel Mayes of St Hild’s Church of England School managed to capture a wonderful image of a sunset.

Hide Ad“She has clearly realised that she needed to gain height in order to capture the image from a higher vantage point.
“Katie Pattison of High Tunstall College of Science, captured of Hartlepool’s fantastic summer wildflower display in all its glory.
“Anne-Marie Price, of English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College, has a well framed and well composed picture of Christchurch.”
Coun Clark said: “Manor Community Academy pupil Ellie Gale’s beach scene is a perfect example of shape and texture, whilst her picture combining ships and wind turbines links the town’s strong industry with the green energy of the future.”
