Hartlepool pays tribute to foster carers and children's home workers ahead of weekly Clap for Carers
Households are again being asked to show their appreciation for the dedication and commitment of a wide range of key workers during the coronavirus outbreak in the event at 8pm on Thursday, April 23.
And this week, Hartlepool Borough Council is particularly keen to highlight the work of foster carers and staff in residential children’s homes.

“However, I would particularly like to pay tribute to the tremendous work of foster carers and staff in our residential children’s homes who are playing a vital role in looking after some of our most vulnerable young people.”
The current situation has brought added challenges for those caring for children who are looked after by the local authority.
Alan Welsh, manager at one of the children’s homes, said: “Covid-19 has caused a lot of issues. There has been a cessation of hobbies, young people haven’t been able to see their friends, and they can’t do their rugby, for example.

And Sylvia Lowe, manager of a home looking after children with additional needs, said staff have adapted very well to changes in working to minimise the risk of catching the virus.
