Recent cooler temperatures and rainy showers over the previous days follow weeks of scorching sunshine and unseasonably warm weather.
The Met Office confirmed that this spring has been the sunniest on record for the UK and all the home nations – and the driest May on record in England.
Figures show that there were 266 hours of sunshine across the entire month.
