Hartelpool United manager Dave Challinor's motivation to get off to a winning start at Victoria Park against Boreham Wood and friend Luke Garrard
The Pools boss is determined to put the disappointment of last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Ebbsfleet behind him and get back to winning ways in the National League.
United host a Boreham Wood side who sit one place and one point above them in the table and Challinor said he couldn’t be more motivated to pick up his first league win in charge.

Hide Ad“There’s lots of motivation for us going into the game,” he said.
“It’s my first home game, it’s a game we’re really looking forward to and it’s going to be good to be back in front of our home fans and it’s important we put on a show and show what we can do.
“My first game at this level was against Luke [Garrard] at Boreham Wood when I was at Fylde so he’s someone who I speak to really regularly and get on with.
“We’re good friends but we’re both really desperate to beat each other on Saturday.”

Hide AdThis weekend’s meeting at The Vic will be the sixth time Challinor and Garrard have gone head to head in the National League.
The Boreham Wood boss currently has the edge with two wins – including one in the play-off quarter-final in 2018 – to Challinor’s one and the other two ending all square.
“The camaraderie between most managers at this level is pretty good anyway but there are certain ones who you get on with more and speak with more,” added the Hartlepool manager.
“[Boreham Wood] played Yeovil before we played them so I spoke to Luke then about Yeovil and how they went about things.

Hide Ad“He knows a lot about me and I know a lot about him and his team so I don’t think there will be any surprises about what we’ll both look to do.
“But it’s a game that I’m looking forward to obviously because of the fact that we’re at home and the players should be looking forward to because it’s our next opportunity to get three points.”
