Boro boss Neil Warnock has been open in his desire to boost the side's attacking line, and a quality striker or two will be the number one priority for the club in this summer's transfer window.
Meanwhile, ex-Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwartzer has opened up on the falling out with then manager Steve McLaren that saw him hand in a transfer request, and revealed: “I called him out a few times and it led to me putting in a transfer request and wanting to leave the club.
“Even after I came back off it, because they wouldn’t let me go, he lied to me again.
“I should have gone back in there and hammered him for it, but it was 2006 going up to the World Cup, European Cup final going up and I was like ‘I’ve just got to get back to playing.’
“We were on our way to hopefully getting to the European Cup final at that time, the transfer window was closing and I was just like well I’ve got to get back to playing games.”
Meanwhile, the Riverside Stadium is gearing up for two high profile matches next week, when Gareth Southgate's England arrive to take on Austria and Romania in their pre-Euro 2020 friendly matches.
